What are cookies?
A "cookie" is a small piece of information that is stored on your device when you visit a website. The cookie means that the website remembers you each time you return and remembers how you used the website. A cookie can be a "persistent" or "session" cookie. A "persistent" cookie will persist for a period of time specified for that cookie. A "session" cookie is only assigned for the duration of your visit to our website and expires automatically when you close your browser. For more information on cookies, please visit aboutttcookies.org or allaboutcookies.org (please note that these links are not managed by us and may open a new window or tab in your browser). If you are in the European Union, you can also find more information at www.youronlinechoices.com/uk.
Some of the tracking technologies used on the Site include, but are not limited to, the following (tracking technologies or methods not mentioned here may be developed in the future)
Cookies and local storage. Cookies are small files containing a string of characters that are sent to your device's browser to uniquely identify your browser or to store information on your device. Our website may use HTTP cookies, HTML5 cookies, Flash cookies and other types of cookie technologies to store information for local storage. Each website may send its own cookie to your browser.
Pixel Tags/Web Beacons. A pixel tag or web beacon is a small graphics file that enables us and third parties to monitor the use of the Services and collect usage data. It may collect information such as the IP address of the device that downloaded the page on which the beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the beacon appears, the time (and duration) that the page containing the beacon was viewed, the type of browser that retrieved the beacon, and the identification number of each cookie that was previously placed on your computer by that server.
Embedded scripts. An embedded script is programming code used to collect information about your interactions with the Site, such as the links you click.
ETag, or entity tag. An ETag, or entity tag, is a caching feature in browsers. It is an opaque identifier that is assigned by a Web server to a specific version of a resource located in a URL.
Browser footprint. This involves the collection and analysis of information from your device, such as, but not limited to, your operating system, plug-ins, system sources and other data, for identification purposes.
Recognition technologies. These are technologies, including the application of statistical probabilities to data sets, that attempt to identify users and devices or make assumptions about users and devices (for example, that a user of multiple devices is the same user).
LiveRamp. When you use our website, we share with our partner, LiveRamp Inc. and its subsidiaries ("LiveRamp"), information that we may collect from you, such as your email address (in an anonymous and hacked form), your IP address or information about your browser or operating system. LiveRamp may use a cookie on your browser, and may match the information you share with its online and offline marketing databases and those of its advertisers in order to associate your browser with information in those other databases. We may also share hacked and de-identified e-mail addresses, IP addresses and advertiser identifiers with LiveRamp, which will use this information to link your device to its databases. This link may be shared among our partners around the world to enable interest-based content or advertising throughout your online experience (e.g., between devices, on the web, in emails and applications, etc.) by third parties who are not affiliated with our site. These third parties may in turn link other demographic or interest information to your browser.
Flash. A Flash cookie is a data file that is stored on a device through the Adobe Flash plug-in and can be embedded or downloaded by you to your device. These cookies may be used for a variety of purposes, including enabling a Flash feature and storing your preferences.
How we use cookies
We use cookies to do several things. For example, cookies are used to enable certain site features, enhance security and detect fraud, improve site functionality, store your preferences, or count the number of visitors to a site. We also use them to keep track of what you have done on the site and to make online advertising more relevant to you.
We receive information from you as part of the communication link itself through the standard e-mail greeting between your computer and our servers. This information typically includes network routing (where it comes from), device information (browser type), Internet Protocol address, date and time. Other parts of the site use cookies (including registration forms) to collect information about your use of the site and to facilitate your future visits. Site cookies may collect the following information: a unique identifier, user preferences and profile information that is used to customize the content displayed.
The cookies themselves do not contain any personally identifiable information ("PII"). They only have a unique alphanumeric identifier that is stored in your browser. And in many cases, we cannot return information collected with a cookie to you. However, you may allow us to link this information to you and your personal data, for example, when you log in or subscribe to a newsletter.
We may also use third parties to track and analyze non-personally identifiable information on the site and to serve ads. For this purpose, we may allow third parties to place cookies on the devices of users of our website, to the extent permitted by law and subject to your right to opt out through the website. We use the information collected to manage and improve the quality of the website and to analyse the use of the website. These third parties may combine the information we provide about you with other information they collect. These third parties are required to use your information in accordance with this cookie policy and our privacy policy. We will record all such disclosures and will use reasonable efforts to ensure that these third parties do not use your personal information for purposes not specifically provided for herein.
We have classified our cookies into the following categories or "types" to help you understand why we need them
Essential - These cookies are essential to provide you with our services and to enable you to use certain features of the site. For example, they allow you to access secure areas of our site and help you quickly load the content of pages you request. Without these cookies, we cannot provide the services you request and we use cookies only to provide you with those services.
Analysis and Performance - These cookies are used to collect information about traffic on our website and services and how users use our website. The information collected does not identify any particular visitor. The information is aggregated and therefore anonymous. It includes the number of visitors to our website, the websites that referred them to our site, the pages they visited, the time they visited the site, whether they have visited the site before, and other similar information. We use this information to make our services more effective, to gather broad demographic information and to monitor the level of activity of our services. To do this, we use Google Analytics - Google Analytics uses its own cookies to improve the performance of our services.
Functionality - These cookies allow our website to remember the choices you make when using our services, such as remembering your language preferences and changes you make to other parts of our websites or services that you can customize. The purpose of these cookies is to provide you with a more personalized experience and avoid having to re-enter your preferences each time you visit our site.
Social Media Cookies - These cookies are used when you share information via a social media share button or "Like" button on our services, or when you link to your account or interact with our content on or via a social networking site such as Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The social networking site will record that you have done so.
Targeting and Advertising - Used to share certain information with third parties with whom we advertise, so that we know how you arrived at our site. We may also use cookies to identify parts of the site that interest you. We then use this information to display ads and pages that we think you might be interested in, to customize the way we communicate with you or the content of messages we send to you. If you prefer, you can choose not to receive these communications. Personalized content means that it contains information that reflects your interest in the content of our websites or in offers or promotions that we think may be of interest to you and to improve the way we meet your needs.
In addition to the cookies we use on our website, we also use cookies and similar technologies in certain emails and notifications we send to you. They help us understand whether you opened the email and how you interacted with it. If you have images enabled, cookies may be placed on your computer or mobile device. Cookies are also placed when you click on a link in the email.
